The City of Rockport is committed to transparency and supports the public's right to access public records created and maintained in the course of its business. Our goal is to provide services in a transparent and accessible manner. The City Secretary’s Office and the Police Department respond to all public information requests in accordance with the Texas Public Information Act.

How to Submit an Open Records Request

In accordance with the Texas Public Information Act, all requests for public information must be made in writing and include the following details:

  1. Identify the specific records you are requesting.
  2. Provide a date range for the requested records.
  3. Indicate whether you would prefer to view the records or obtain copies.
  4. Include the requester's contact information (mailing address, phone number, or email).

The City of Rockport is committed to transparency and providing access to public records. All public information requests are processed through our online portal, which can be accessed via the link below. Please note that some records may require a processing fee.

For online Open Records requests, click on the appropriate request below. The Attorney General’s Office provides a fee (see fees).  Upon receipt, the City of Rockport will begin processing your request. Keep in mind that requests should pertain to documents or information that already exists.

All public records will be made available to the public as requested, as expeditiously as possible, unless the law provides for an exception to disclosure. Such exceptions may include but are not limited to:

  • Bank account and routing numbers (Tex. Gov't Code § 552.136)
  • Credit card number and expiration date (Tex. Gov't Code § 552.136)
  • Date of birth (Tex. Gov't Code § 552.101 + common-law privacy) • Driver’s license number (Tex. Gov't Code § 552.130)
  • Email address (Tex. Gov't Code § 552.137)
  • Insurance policy number (Tex. Gov't Code § 552.136)
  • License plate number (Tex. Gov't Code § 552.130)
  • Personal identification number (Tex. Gov't Code § 552.147)
  • Social Security numbers (Tex. Gov't Code § 552.147)

The City of Rockport is not required to answer questions, create new documents or records, generate statistics or analyses, perform legal research, or fulfill a continuing request for periodic information. It is important to be as specific as possible when requesting public records. If a request is vague or unclear, City staff may need to ask for clarification to accurately identify the responsive records.

Some records may be exempt from disclosure under the law. If the City determines that certain documents may be confidential or privileged, the City of Rockport will request a determination from the Attorney General of Texas regarding whether those documents can be released. Should this occur, you will be notified and updated on the Attorney General’s decision about the confidentiality of the documents in question.
