If a mandatory evacuation is ordered – leave immediately. Be sure to secure your home and take your pet with you. If you are elderly or disabled and need evacuation assistance, please call 211 as soon as the evacuation is ordered.
TxDOT has developed several mapping systems if an evacuation is ordered. Access the one for our area. Please note that TxDOT will continually be updating road information via their web site, Twitter feeds and Facebook site.
Before departing, make sure you understand the projected path of the hurricane. You do not want to be driving into it or areas that may experience excessive flooding and damage.
Once you’re settled in, stay tuned to news and weather bureaus and visit the National Hurricane Center National Hurricane Centere for the latest information.
Once a voluntary evacuation order is issued, the City will establish a satellite communications office in a secure area several hours from Rockport. Staff members will be available to answer non-emergency calls at the main number (361-729-2213) and will post updates and information coming in from the Emergency Operations Center on this web site and social media. For your own safety, do not return until an announcement has been posted.
By not complying with a mandatory evacuation, you put yourself at great risk. There is no guarantee that first responders can rescue you once the storm nears land. Find a safe location indoors and away from doors and windows to prevent possible injury from flying debris. Federal Emergency Management officials ask that you also write your social security number on your arm using a permanent marker.
